Finding Peace this week!

I don’t know about you guys, but the best word I can think of for right now is “unsettled.” And not unsettled like I’m scared, but more that things just feel a bit off, and not as they should be. This week included the time change, which always makes things feel a little wonky, and then as more  information has come out about COVID-19, and all the steps we are having to take as an organization and that many of us are dealing with personally—from school closings to church closings-- things just seem to be a little discombobulated.

The main comfort that I’m finding right now is the reminder that this week did not take God by surprise. Even though we might not have been ready for it, and even though we may be facing some anxiety right now, the fact remains that God is still sovereign as ever. We are still fully loved, and we can find peace in the fact that our creator is intimately aware of our individual and collective struggles.

Just as Moses reminded Joshua in Deuteronomy 31:6, we too can hang on to the promise that God will never leave or forsake us. There are lots of unanswered questions, which is a bit difficult for those of us who like to plan, and be in control, and know what is going to happen daily for the next month. We can choose panic and fear, or we can choose to trust that God is with us.  Things may feel weird, and that is okay. It is also wise to plan as we can, to take recommended precautions, and to do what we need to do to make sure our loved ones are safe. However, as we prepare for the coming weeks, we can do so without panic. We can ask God to provide the peace that passes understanding, that comes from only Him, and we can share that peace with all we encounter (or may NOT encounter) over the next few days!
