Don't Give Up!
9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the
proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m getting a little tired.
It’s summer, which means it hot, and that just makes everything in life a
little more difficult. It’s also summer, which means no school, and for a lot
of us in the MFH continuum, more time with the kiddos in our care. While this
is awesome and exciting because of the possibilities of increased progress
during this time, I have felt myself (and observed from others) that it can be
a little draining. Again, not in a bad way, but when we are pouring more of
ourselves out on a daily basis, it is important to remember to fill ourselves
back up.
In addition to rest, and prayer, and fun with family and
friends, and REST, one tool that I use to recharge is to try to take a step
back and remember why I’m doing what I’m doing. To think back on the call that
God put on my life to be here, in this moment. While I haven’t had the chance
to hear all of the staff stories at MFH, I have had the privilege to hear some.
And, from what I’ve heard, you all have a reason that you have chosen this
career, which, let’s be honest, is really a ministry. It may be a friend or
family member who has faced a difficulty, it may be that you faced a difficult
time as a child that led you here, or it may just be that God has given you a
passion to help children and teens dealing with problems. Whatever the path
that has led you to be at work this week, know that it is a divine path led by
an omniscient and omnipresent God.
God has chosen you to be where you are, doing the work that
you are doing. On days when you grow tired, remember that you are chosen. God
encourages us in Galatians not to give up, even if when we are tired, because a
harvest is right around the corner. Who knows what that word of encouragement,
or that extra teaching interaction, or even just that simple smile or pat on
the back will do for someone today! My encouragement for us all is not to give
up! Keep going, even if you are tired, even though you are most certainly hot,
and possibly worn out today after a holiday yesterday. God has picked you, and
only you, to fill that role in someone’s life that only you can fill. Take a
break, take a breath, and keep on doing the good that you are made to do!
